Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

  • As always, I posted the information first on Slack and he was 60ish pence then. Sign up to Indexgain and come and join the fun. More than worth it for the information available. Good crowd too and full of fun banter.

    Ok down to business.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo – 26 years old - Defender

Starts at RB for Napoli after signing from Empoli in the summer, he has Champions league football, pretty much always completes 90 mins, has just broke into an Italy side screaming for a specialist RB and grabbed an assist on his debut on Tuesday.

The new PB matrix seems to suit him, as is has the majority of the better players on the index and he has a good PB average since signing for Napoli, 122 average from 10 games, one of those was a -15 (fact check this please) as he was rested for 1 game so his average when he plays is actually higher than the 122 I think. He has finished second twice in the race for top defender. His top 2 scores this season are 221 and 190 which Is quite good and should improve as he settles more into his new environment.

Last season he got 5 goals and 3 assists for Empoli so the goal/assist threat that is key for competing for PB is there and he already has 1 goal and 2 assists for Club and now country this season. Napoli also have kept 5 clean sheets already this season and we know Italy love a clean sheet. This also helps with PB. Averages 50-60 passes a game, gets up and down the pitch. Good player.

Ok to sum up, I cannot see anybody at his price, at his age or younger, playing European football, breaking into the national team, with his goal/assist threat, pb average and top score potential anywhere on the index. I have been saying this since he was 60 odd pence on slack, so eventually I will have to stop, but not yet!

If there are more players like him, help me find them!

I encourage all opinions on the player and hopefully a healthy debate. Do your research before you challenge me though, because I have done mine 😊

  • I bought him the other day, good timing!

I also have spinazzola who is well undervalued also and similar factors to di lorenzo.

  • @ScoutScout That is what I call a player pump!! Nice.

  • @ScoutScout Just throw my hat into the ring on this guy....need a sub Β£1 buy for the season / Euros.

  • @ScoutScout I've got some shares in the queue which have started selling so should have a little pot in the next few hours.

Prior to reading this I had some money ear marked for Timmy castagne but you've got my interest with this post so thought I would set out a comparison and see if you can help me make up my mind.

Prices are as near as makes no difference. Both are wing backs, both in good serie a sides, castagne has CL where as Di Lorenzo has EL, but with atalanta bottom of their CL group, but with shakhtar and dynamo Zagreb above them, I fancy their chances of at least ending up in the EL

Both have a somewhat fledgling international career with castagne a little more established with 6 belgium caps to do Lorenzo's 1 italian cap and impressively for a wing back has already got 2 international goals, although a quick check on wikipedia shows that both carry a good goal threat by the standards of a full back.

Castagne is also 2 and a bit years younger, but has a significantly poorer PB average than Di Lorenzo. Whilst castagne has a higher peak of 260, its significant that this was scored last week against a diabolical san marino team in a game in which he scored and assisted, and belgium won 9-0 having 79% possession. Therefore this 260 is probably best viewed as an anomaly.

Other than that hes posted a 207 and a 192. The rest of his top 5 scores ever are very comparable to those of Di lorenzo and both have posted their top 5 between the end of last season and the beginning of this suggesting that both are upwardly mobile in terms of PB friendliness. Perhaps most significantly of all, Di Lorenzo has posted 4 of his top 5 this season and this has coincided with his short time playing for napoli which suggests that it may have been a great move for him from an FI perspective.

I'm on the verge of answering my own question here and in favour of di lorenzo but I'd still be interested to know your view on castagne if you have 1

  • @MickTurbo said in Giovanni Di Lorenzo. Still excellent value. 82p:

I might swing it for you. Are you sure on this. Atalanta have lost to the other 2 already - they next play a double header against Man City so likely on zero points after 4 games. Shakhtar and Zagreb have a double header which if they split will leave them both on 6 points. Atalanta will have almost no path to the EL at this point.

  • @MickTurbo

Di Lorenzo is in the CL mate. Same group as Liverpool and Salzberg. Hoping they finish third an go deep into the Europa.

Definitely Di Lorenzo over Castagne for me. His Pb average is 50ish points higher and Castagne gets rotated a bit.

  • @janner73 good point well made. To be honest I've been on and off chestnuts more times than I have our lass so I might go somewhere new πŸ‘

@ScoutScout I mis-read your info, I thought you had said he was in the EL and just accepted it πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ. I've bought 300 do lorenzo anyway mate, by the time I'd finished that post I had just over 400 in my balance so hit buy max on him and used the remainder to top up elsewhere. Yeh his average is significantly better than chestnuts and hes getting a bit of traction now πŸ‘

Spinazzola is in europa though and Italian squad and 51p. ( Sorry for pumping again just almost identical factors factors to the 2 mentioned players and scored 216 pb the other week).

  • Just brought in, fairly big riser last 24 hours but ticks main boxes for me, good shot at PB, playing Europe and more than likely euros in summer

  • @Tom77

Sorry to do this mate, but I did warn about doing research first haha. It's hot in this thread.

Spinazzola is a rotation player it looks like, Very rarely finishes 90 mins and I cannot seem to find this 216 score. His PB average and potential to win divs are also pretty poor in comparison.

  • @Tom77 Spinazzola is a rotation player at Roma tho. Florenzi is first choice RB and Kolarov LB - Spinazzola normally plays when one of those 2 is injured or being rested. He's also, at best, second choice LB behind Emerson for Italy.

They paid a lot of money for him though, he wont be back up for long.

Emerson is train wreck, look at his injury record over the years.

  • @Tom77 Emerson may be a train wreck but he's the only Italian full back that I can see that is guaranteed a place in the squad if fit.
Look at how many they've used in qualification - Florenzi, Biraghi, Spinazzola, D'Ambrosio, Di Lorenzo, Piccini have all played a game or 2 each and Luca Pellegrini has been in a squad too. If you're banking on the Italian squad it's stick a pin in a very long list for full backs.

I’m not banking on anything, Emerson has played less than 100 games in 7 years so I would rather pay 51p than 1.30 for someone and be in on a player at the low end not the high.

  • @Tom77 I didn't say Emerson was a good hold either. I was purely pointing out facts on Spinazzola.

    That’s fine mate, no worries.

  • Ok back to the original topic now.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo is still excellent value :)

Especially with the impending dividend announcement on tomorrow.

  • Great shout! Great value FB option right now ☺️

87p now and I feel this is clearly still the case. So much going for him.

There are so many defenders priced higher than him that he has been outperforming this season. Big names as well.
