Outperforming the FOOTIE
-
I think of myself as a pretty decent trader but I have outperformed the FOOTIE in terms of percentage growth in the last 6 months by 3.8%. Does this mean that I am actually a below average trader? How do you guys do in relation to the footie?
responses are appreciated as finding out if the growth of the Footie accurately reflects the average growth of a portfolio
Cheers

How much has the footie grown in the last 4months?
-
53% :O 10621 on 29/11 to 16266 on 28/03
-
Haha then were all terrible
-
It's complicated cos the footie grew just by ipos some of which no-one has bought. So the footie value isn't always reflective of growth
-
@Noirx4 The footie is a reflection of the top 200 players only so IPOs don't have an impact on its growth.
Edit - spelling
-
@James is it? Where's that reported?
-
@James I think this wording was used when there were only 200 tradable players, not sure if that has changed now though? If it is as you say though then the expensive IPOs like Milner will have an impact on the FOOTIE. He's not at 2.32 by starting at the bottom and then 'growing' to his price, he's just been 'placed' there and so the FOOTIE 'growth' caused by this is misleading

This is what they claimed in August 2017, but I can't see how it adds up to anywhere near 16,000 at all:
"Footie" Index is the index number that represents the 'market cap' of all 200 footballers in 1st Team List at a point of time - being the sum of the current price of each footballer. Much like the FTSE 100 which was launched on 3 January 1984 and had a start value of 1,000.0, the "Footie" Index launched in October 2015 with a base value of 1,000 points

@BL__FI Two points. Firstly, the market cap of a stock is the share price times the number of shares in issue. We don't know how many shares are in issue for each player therefore cannot calculate the market cap of the player.
Secondly, this was there definition in August, before the squad was tradable. It's unclear now if the FOOTIE now includes the squad. 'All 200 footballers', what is the key word here, 'all' or '200'?

@Blue-Python Yeah that's what I understand a market cap to be as well, and as you say that would mean we can't calculate it, which seems likely. I'd still expect it to be the top 200 though, because if it's the genuine market cap and it includes the whole squad, 16,000 starts to seem rather low ...
