Did Liverpool break the subs new rule
-
I have no truck with Liverpool or Everton as I follow Swindon Town but did Liverpool flaunt the new substitutions rules tonight? My understanding is you are allowed 5 subs from 9 players but can only make the changes on 3 occasions. Tonight they used 4 occasions ... 1 Gomez on, 2 The Ox on, 3 Widnaldum and Origi on and number 4 Loveren on. This new rule is so confusing.
-
Thought exactly the same. Should of played the last 20 mins with 10 men.
-
@Gary-T if so I fully expect they should get docked the appropriate amount of points so they dont win the title!🤭
-
It was the same with brighton yesterday but both them and liverpool made one of the subs at half time which maybe doesnt count as its a natural stoppage?
-
Tainted title 😂
-
Subs at half time don't count as a stoppage. No rule break.
-
Yep i was right this is a quote from the fifa media release on the temporary rule change:
"However, to avoid disruption to the game, each team will only have three opportunities to make substitutions; substitutions may also be made at half-time."

So the officials made a mistake. Never mind

Liverpool deserve the title and all that, but how can you change the rules of the game at this point and continue the season? How many of their opponents pre-Corona could make five changes to players against them? Or have two drinks breaks to break it up and discuss tactics? Or not have to face the mythical "Anfield under the lights" atmosphere and crowd?
It genuinely is a tainted title. Whatevs.

No they didn't.
-
half time substitution doesn't count as a game break. No rules broken.
-
Yes the rule is there to make sure each team does not stop the game more than 3 times, so punishing a team for a half time sub would be silly.
But would doing it at a water break count? The game is already stopped.
-
Hahahaha tainted title because one sub didn't come on at the same time as another in a 0-0 bore draw, whilst still over 20 points clear at the top 🙈😂
@Leighton whatever you're smoking mate, pass some over here!
-
Definitely a tainted title. 😐
It almost feels like a new season now, or even pre-season.
The deserve the title no doubt - but definitely a bit of gloss comes off their achievement, no fans, different sub rules etc.
It's almost an anti-climax with the pandemic.
I think an asterisk * should explain what went on for future generations when we look in the history books.
-
Hahahaha
-
@ScouseSte I'd have no problem with this title win going down with an asterisk next to it.......it would put us in an elite club of 1 as the only team to have one lmao

Hahaha frigging asterisks 😂
IF we win the title (it ain't won yet) there is absolutely nothing that can taint it.
It's just incredible!
Champions League winners one year
League title winners the next.
Glorious mate 😊
