Fabinho positional change???

  • Fabinho did well and may play more in defence for liverpool.
With VVD out if he stayed in defence permantely for the rest of this season would opta/Football index change his position from Mid to Def.

I know people have held players before who have changed and wondered how long it would take and could be worth investing.???

  • @Doug-s

    Can't see it...

Matip was unfit, so Fabinho played as CB like he did a couple of weeks ago. He'll be back to CM when Matip's fitness returns.

Liverpool will buy a CB in January

  • @Dan-The-Man

He'll be back up until then, do you think it'll help or hinder his PB Matrix scoring.

Could it benefit him bringing the ball forward from defensive play to attacking assists.

He did well last night and he did really well there a couple of weeks back.

I think if Fabinho is moved to CB whilst VVD is out, it will increase his own PB... but it will also increase his competition because someone else (Henderson probably) will fill the CM role, which means they will pick up higher scores too. The thing is... Liverpool are all over the place with fitness. Last night Henderson played the second half, Thiago is out... Wijnaldum hardly ever plays the full 90, Milner is arguably the fittest chap they have and he's ancient, so it's difficult to see who's going to occupy that CM role, if Fabinho is forced in to defence.

Fabinho picked up a 190 last night, albeit with the UCL bonus but he also picked up a 188 against Chelsea, when he spent the second half as a CB. So I don't think it will negatively impact him. We saw at times yesterday, Liverpool went into a back three, with Fabinho hanging around the opposition box quite a bit and he came close to netting more than once. Likewise, we saw Liverpool pass around the back quite a bit, which is why Van Dijk usually gets decent PB scores. Fabinho is a towering figure, so he's always going to attack corners and he's great with a long ball too, he's basically a Brazilian Van Dijk, with the ability to bang from 40 yards...

Given that his skill set is very similar to Van Dijk, if he replaces VVD as CB, there's no reason to think he won't achieve similar PB scores... (minus the clean sheet of course).

Van Dijk's PB scores in the last year have been Gold Day win worthy, so if Fabinho comes close it could be interesting, especially if we see any Single Match Gold Days.

Maybe but he looks to be exclusively a CB for next few months. Even with matip fit that would leave them with 3 CBs including fabinho.

Given they are loaded with CMs would be a surprise if he played in midfield before Jan. Wouldnt really make any sense.

Be interesting to see what opta do. He is a Midfielder on loan to defence.

The problem is isn't quite as dominant in the air as VVD so his chance of a goal is a bit less.

Probably the kind of player that if changed to a DEF would see a price rise but wouldn't necessarily justify it.

In midfield for 3 spots they have

    Wijn
    Thiago
    Henderson
    Keita
    Ox
    Milner
    Curtis Jones
    Fabinho

For 3 spots. Maybe 2 spots sometimes in a 4231 which they have used before.

Yeah, I don't think he'll be changed on FI to a defender... I meant his PB as a midfielder playing at CB (Which I still think won't be all that often as Matip will be back).

I agree he isn't perhaps quite as dominant in the air as Van Dijk. The swing to that roundabout being he can score from 30 yards but really it's the passing system that leads to high PB base scores. Liverpool play around the back quite often, then chuck a long ball forward which often turn in to assists or secondary key passes.

  • @Dan-The-Man Awesome feedback thanks mate 😎

  • @Doug-s

    No worries.
