What are peoples long term aims off the FI?

  • Simple question. When do you cash out if your a long term player. With sports betting I may have £50 a game if it comes in great. Nothing different for me, a good run maybe I buy something for the house and weekend city get away ect. With the FI I have a profolio building up, similar to my Index funds or long term savings account(which I won't touch til I retire). However the FI is move fun, and i'm making great returns.

My plan is to cash in my profit once I've made enough money for a trip on the Royal Caribbean symphony of the seas, approx £5000 which may come at the end of this season. Free holiday.

Anyone else got long term goals? I would be interested in hearing.

  • I am buying a house in 2 years so hoping to make 5k profit for free to cover the cost of an engagement ring at the same time

  • To build my pot up

  • @Ricky Sounds like awesome life goals mate. Wish you all the luck in the world.

  • @Misto

Best of luck to you sir.

I don't want to work until I am in my 50s or 60s. Life's too short. So the aim is to use investing (here and other methods) to retire early and pursue interests without having to think about how much a job pays....

  • @Misto So funny reading this as right now I'm sun bathing on the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas somewhere in the western Caribbean watching my portfolio go up up and up. Good times : )

  • @Mr-Matt So cool mate. Was on the Jewel of the seas last year round Greece. Radiance class ship. Never been on the Oasis class ships ever. Guessing its a good step up. Why i'm really looking forward to going on one next year.

The staff on them cruise ships make in for me. Enjoy the sun :)

  • @Misto sure is, got so much on board including a park, bars, a night club, casino, a massive gym, 3 or 4 pools and loads of hot tubs everywhere. Yeah the staff are great. You can search for offers and get a massive chunk off that 5k you quoted (unless you got a big family or are booking the penthouse). From as little as £569 + flights below.

  • @Irene-goodnight What other methods do you use?

  • I have £17.7k currently. I want to make that go up into £100k - £175k. Then when I feel ready I'll pull the money out and invest into property. I'll then live somewhere cheaper like Thailand or Ukraine.

The only way I've ever seen 17.7k turned into 175k was drug dealing ...

As much as I admire the enthusiasm, I feel your expectations are a little unrealistic.

  • @johnboywalker

    Understood but how?

The other person hasn't said that they won't deposit more money...

The other person hasn't said a time frame. They may want to achieve this in 30 years. It's possible with a good strategy and a rational mind...

    Always possible 😀

  • Honestly don't have a goal yet. I'm still terribly indecisive in terms of depositing more money. I do feel many players appear over valued at present. Of course, if we see no drop and these players hold their price for a while it will change my perspective.

I don't have enough money to make anything serious here. Only earn £27k per year. If I put 1k in I'd love to see it return 1k profit. But even if I achieved this, I'd probably find it hard to sell and withdraw the profit's.

  • @Mr-Matt Thanks mate. I may be over doing it abit with £5000, just me and the misses. I normally spend about £2500-3000 on the cruise with flights, then a balcony and I always get the drinks package. If I remember it runs at $120 per day. Then the rest for on and off ship spending.

Would you recommend a sea view or park view balcony?

  • Truth be told , if I could get enough even for something like a deposit for a car or more ambitious thing would be to buy a car out right I’d be happy 👌🏻

  • Honestly I dream of making enough money on this so that it could be my full time job. Looking for talents and just watching football seems amazing.

But that goal is a bit unrealistic so for now I just want my portfolio to have a higher growth than the average portfolio in the real stockmarket (10-20%). It's the only way I can tell my self it's okay to invest a lot of money into this :)

  • I use the index as a high return savings account. If I'm in the green after commission and everything I'm happy. Hope one day I can buy land

  • I'm losing my job at the end of this month, with quite a large payout (I'm walking straight into another job so it's all fine) but that payout coupled with what I have in the index is enough for a deposit on a new house.

So I'm quite lucky that investing my funds in the index (which I know doubt would have blown had it been sat in a bank account) has coincided with this lump sum of cash, if one of these things hasn't happened I wouldn't be about to purchase our new house

Ironically as well, the money that I have invested in the index is a payout from when I lost my previous job!

  • @Wolves_Ay_We I love that. You could frame it as "I put loads of money on a gambling website and I'm losing my job, so now I can finally buy a house" lol
