Game winning goal
This has no doubt been asked before, however can't find anything.
Anyway, what is the definition of 'game winning goal' in opta index? There seem to be a couple of different definitions on the tinterweb.
@NewUser136909 it's the goal that separates the sides.
In a 3-1 win it would be the second goal for the winning side.
If a side go 9-0 up then concede a goal it would be the second goal that would count as the GWG.
That's 100% for opta/FI?
It's what GWG would means to me, but there is other stuff out there which says it is the goal that gave the team the lead
ie 3-0 up, win 3-1 it is still the 1st goal scored.
No the second goal because its makes it 2-1
Is that fact or opinion?
@NewUser136909 it's how it works on here. Would be the second goal. You will see it on the match day rankings as it happens. The GWG will be accounted for in the live rankings.
The only thing I'd add is that I noticed an own-goal doesn't seem to be counted as GWG, so if an OG puts a team 2-1 up, the 3rd goal would still be counted as GWG - assuming the team won 3-1
