I've now been on FI for about 5 weeks and although I've made several mistake, bought and sold until I'm happy with my portfolio, even paying over 100 pounds commission on sales,my balance rises daily and I'm 275 up on a 4,500 investment. It can't be that easy to make money,so please advise me what to look out for,as so body must lose!

If the numbers are correct then your portfolio value is 4,775, which means the net value(less 2%) if you are able to sell all players at the current prices is 4,679.50, thus giving you a 'real' profit to date of 179.50. Of course, if you instant sell then this will reduce the profit further. This isn't aimed at being sceptical, just ensuring that you understand the true value of and the real profit in your portfolio, and you can see how regular selling to buy can really affect your long term game if you have 'itchy fingers'!

In addition to Advinculas Index's response, here's an older debate about the financial viabilty of FI: https://forums.footballindex.co.uk/topic/5336/flying-is-football-index-financially-viable

@CraigM Thanks for your advice,I have no intention of selling, and have not got itchy fingers, just Dident know what I was doing at first(probably still don't)and was willing to take a few hits before I settled on portfolio before the ss.Now have 7 top end players,7mid range and 10 cheaper, with a bit of money left in reserve, won't be touching that till after ss.

Well done. My fingers are as itchy as the next man so have to try and control my actions, but going ok now with small tweaks at the end of each month. I've only been here since October myself but have spent over 600 on commission, and IS players which has also cost me around 200 more than if I waited. Saying that, my net gain so far is over 2k, and I am a lot happier now with the way things are. It certainly does take several weeks/months to work it out! I am so childish that I call my portfolio the nifty 50, as this is the number of players I have. By ensuring I stick to this number, I now have to justify swapping a player and this helps with the itch!!! I am heavy with top end players and a nice sprinkling of other young players with nobody over 27 in my portfolio. Ps by having a large portfolio, I have only had 3 days(during the flat market recently) since the new year when my portfolio value went down so 95% of days have been positive! Good luck with it Andy

@CraigM so do you generally sell players because you want to be rid of them or to cash in a profit as you think they have peaked?
I've been on fi for about 5 weeks also and am yet to sell a player, however am getting itchy fingers about tidying my portfolio a bit.... potentially removing some of my cheaper/small holds that have dropped (e.g. cornet, Mancini, Luis Muriel) a bit.
Also have Salah and kimmich who have dropped over £1 but think both good long term holds which will bounce back.

I' decided that already 250 up after two weeks,I joined FI not knowing anything about it and bought far to many players.I decided to rearrange my portfolio,so that I owned 25 futures of my most expensive player,50 of mid priced, and 100 of the cheaper. In general I did ok,my two main errors being selling my 50 in morales who has since nearly doubled, and also half my futures in chey Adams.I did top up on sanche who has made up for some of that.I am sure I still have a lot to learn,so am going to sit tight until share split, then go from there.Good luck with your portfolio
