James Ward-Prowse

  • Hi everyone!

I have been on the platform 6 weeks so still working out some of this. I'll confess that as a Saints fan one of the first players I invested in was JWP as he has been in excellent form since turn of the year. But I can not understand for the life of me why is price isn't rising? He has 7 goals in about half of season playing and has got called up for England. Yet his price his 0.53 despite been as good as most midfielders for ipd. For comparison players with same or less goals are trading way higher. Fraser (0.98), Brooks (1.49), Winks (0.84), Maddison (1.88), Loftus-Cheek (1.5). I dont know what the stats are like for MB or PB but at a guess it won't be that much (maybe Maddison excepted for PB).

Don't get me wrong, I understand why some of these players are higher, I just don't understand why so much higher? Have I just made a poor purchase and accept he aint gonna rise? Or do I sit tight and wait for people to realise that there is a bargain there?

  • Hold out until Liverpool buy him :)

  • I made same mistake when I joined three months ago. As a Saints fan I bought a few Southampton players including JWP expecting a nice rise. Ended up selling at a loss. Lesson learnt.
Put all the money on Ryan Fraser.

  • He basically trebled in value between January and March. So his improved form and goals return is accounted for in that rise.

Probably needing some decent transfer rumours to get another big rise.

  • @NewUser284339

I have 50 of him in my portfolio and will be topping up at some point.

He's still making a name for himself and could do with a move to a better club. I reckon he might grow towards the end of summer as more people prepare for the following season.

There's also a 1 in a million chance Southgate takes him for a super-sub freekick specialist.

  • With VAR next year there will be a lot more penalities in games, thinking of topping up on takers from a few teams as they'll be getting more goals and attention.

Really nice idea this however are you sure its gonna increase. Lot of divers win penalties. If you were to look at amount of penalties won in tournaments this year compared to last year without VAR then I could get behind this.

  • @LuaLua yeah havent looked at the numbers more just a thought.
Remember seeing at the world cup there were loads more penalties so could be worth a shout.
Some cheap takers could be worth more for IPD, especially any defenders?

  • What I don’t get JWP , Tom Davies, Nathan redmond, are so cheap and get game time and knocking on the door are cheap and players that play in the championship and league one young but not setting the world on fire are double the price on the index and they might be young but they are on loan to lower league clubs or come through the clubs academy and may look good at Rotherham or Coventry but get them in the PL and they will struggle I think ya got to look beyond the hype and football manager

So in this case pb max correlates kinda well with price. JWP has pretty poor potential for pb.

If you're looking at him for Ipd you need to remember that the best he can probably do is get 4p in a 30 day window. That's not even a ten percent return on investment and thats best case scenario. So many better options out there. who are cheaper and will return more ipd.

The other discrepancies in price are due to factors like
being young and having a lot of potential
    Having transfer speculation
Being at a better team so better chances for pb and mb as more games win and more paper interest
    Just generally more market buzz
And the fact this place just works in mysterious ways

He looks cheap in comparison. But that's not necessarily because he's a bargain but because the maybe the others might be overpriced.

Often its just way too much overhype with players in nonpb leagues.

So at first a few people kinda think he might get some pb when he enters a new league and then other people see the rise and jump on board and then it kinda becomes this unstoppable train.
I promise you half the players you are probably thinking of will be down in the doldrums with redmond soon enough.

The market works in mysterious ways. this is why its best to work with a small amount of money before you understand it.
