Defenders & Clean sheets?

  • Other than VVD and Kimmich, the defenders are all relatively cheap compared to the midfield and strikers due to the low chance of getting an assist/ goal. Has there ever been any word of FI maybe introducing a clean sheet in play dividend for defenders because right now they seem like a pointless hold.

They still win PB and MB so not exactly pointless.

  • I think it would be sensible - would make them a lot of money as people would rush to buy defenders.

The same argument to any change of rules though is it could devalue peoples existing bets. Increasing defender value would decrease value in other players as people shift money from one to the other to create more equilibrium.

I don't know what kind of mechanic they could use to make it viable. Even if they said the change wasn't going to take place for 3 years (which in theory covers their ass from ruining existing bets) you would still see the market over react and we would all lose a tonne of money of midfielders and strikers.

  • This is what FI had to say about it at the end of the G&A trial and clean sheets for keepers was added.

Why don't defenders get a dividend for a clean sheet?

Based on our analysis Clean Sheets weren't an exceptional enough event to justify a meaningful dividend for defenders and would sometimes reward defenders that didn't contribute significantly to that outcome.

  • If clean sheets are not considered unique enough, why not increase the number of defenders that receive PB on a match day? That would increase defender value without a major overhaul of FI or decreasing other player value. Or maybe increase the time they can qualify for IPD so gives them a bit of extra time to score or assist?

Out of interest (I am a new player) why are midfielders lumped in with strikers for goals? A goal from Gueye or Wanyama has very different value to Aguero or Salah

  • @Allams-Out definitely. You can be a poor defender and get clean sheets because of the rest of the defence.

Maybe a successful tackle dividend, but again would reward teams that were defensive rather than man City or barcelona
