    • RE: Red Friday

If you are expecting a crash tomorrow you should have pulled your money already (or got a cash balance together to take advantage).

No, of course it won't be your 'last chance to get your money out'.

I often wonder whether posts like this are put here deliberately by those with large cash balances hoping to stoke panic and pick up bargains...

    • RE: My latest Football Index video on RISK

I think this video has been made honestly - but it overplays the risks. Players dying, moving to China or getting career ending injuries is really very rare indeed - especially amongst the top players.

It is right to say that risk has increased overall though for sure, and it is only right that divs should increase as well to reflect that. FI's reduced liabilities on IS should support that.

I do feel sorry for people who mainly played the bottom end in the past - but dividend earning players, and those who have the potential to become them, are still valuable, and can still be sold on to others - usually with significant capital appreciation.

There is also the element of untapped potential that FI has. It's a fun game and has some of the appeal of Fantasy Football. It's nowhere near as embedded as FF - nor as embedded as other forms of betting. The ceiling in this country is high- let alone with other territories too.

There is a long way to go for this project and whilst this is a rocky few months the long term future of the platform is bright. However it is imperative for the growth of the platform that existing port holders are kept happy and I am sure FI are very much aware of that.

    • Dividends

I got almost 1% of my port back yesterday in dividends. One day alone. No promos, just winners and the new structure.

The value out there is crazy right now.

I'm not a whale by any means, but I hold:

      250 Lewa
      300 Grealish (and 100 Pasalic...)
      125 Hernandez
      300 Donnarumma

And my team has just won 7-2 against the Champions!

      What.a.fucking.day.

    • RE: Invest/Gambling

It's clearly a hybrid isn't it. It's ludicrous to call it pure gambling because under all but the most unlikely situations you don't risk losing your stake, and most people here have made money which does not apply at the bookies.

Equally it's not as protected as investing in stocks and shares - the risk profile is higher.

That's reflected in the size of my own investment - it's much more than I would ever 'gamble' in the traditional sense, but also a lot less than I might put into the stock market.

    • RE: how many players would you lose money on

This is boring. Yes, spreads are wide on a lot of players, paper profit is decreasing due to people (sensibly) market listing large swathes of their portfolio in case they sell so as to either reinvest now via ME or hold out for order books.

At the same time, there's an excellent promotion running for the next two months, loads of gold days coming up and a fully functioning OB system on the way in the coming weeks.

If you suddenly need your money immediately I accept it's not great. But FI has never been that sort of place - it's more like a 90+ notice account where you take your money out over a period of time.

I feel much more reassured following the current promotion. FI will do what it takes to support the market - it's just an odd transitional phase at present.

    • RE: Rashford PB?

@Zizou it would be ridiculous and would totally undermine the market if they were paying out on the wrong player.

I know it's frustrating but it's more important they get it right.

Nice to see Mike recognising the need for better trader engagement. The reputational damage they have dealt to their own product over the past six months has been enormous - they need to make their trader base happy again or else the product will fail. Comms, engagement but also, in the end, a way of recompensing traders for their recent losses in some way will be key.

    • RE: Here's How Fake My Portfolio Value Is

@FootballArgos I have a lot of goalkeepers at 300-500 shares but only one outfielder (Grealish) who I couldn't help topping up on when he dropped below £2. Lewa and Eriksen might join that club soon (the latter I am well in the hole on but if he earns a regular start/moves his IS price at the moment is comically low).

I held 500 Kane earlier in the year but wasn't comfortable with that amount of £ in one player so now at 200.

Think the £ amount matters a lot more than shares tbh. None of my players are worth more than 5% of my port .

Could be my best TOTM so far if it stays as it is - even better if Messi or Kane nicks top spot.

    • RE: Messi, Ronaldo getting on a bit

Messi will earn a lot of divs over the period. He should cover himself in a year or so. That yield figure doesn't incorporate 12 months of the new structure, TOTM, or MDX - which is the case of Premiums is actually better than IPD. So I think he's pretty sound at 4-4.50. He's definitely not a three year bet - although he'll still get MB even in the States.

Personally I don't see Lewandowski retiring anytime soon. I actually think he may well have another 3 years at Bayern in him - they call him 'the body' there because he's in such good shape.
As a number 9 he doesn't need to run too much either. Again, at his price I don't think you can go too far wrong.

Ronaldo for me is a tad riskier given age. He is still a great player but certainly not the Ronaldo of 2/3 years ago and doesn't have the same PB and MB appeal as Messi.

    • RE: Is football index worth getting into now

@Aarondb91 yes definitely - but start small. It's a great concept, makes football more fun, and the yields available are very good.

However, it is not a stable investment vehicle and FI have proven themselves untrustworthy in how they manage the market. This has rocked confidence and made the market prone to crashes.

If you buy the proven dividend earners at their current prices you should make a good return and have a bit of fun, but always remember that it is a bet. You're unlikely to lose your stake but it could depreciate as well as appreciate.

Oh, and watch out for the forum. It's not a site for constructive discussion anymore sadly - have a poke around and you'll find it's been derailed by a small number of very persistent posters with extreme views.

      Good luck!

I'm fairly happy with that. Definitely cheaper for FI but IPD flipping was expense and hassle and this adds value to a lot of my port.

Hopefully top end rises will pull a lot of the rest up.

@Dan-The-Man its not right to compate this to traditional betting in that way. There are two parts to the bet, the asset and the dividends.

To make a profit, your asset plus dividends needs to be higher upon sale than the original asset purchase price (minus commission).

Obviously that's easier when the market is rising - but you don't need to cover the entire purchase price of your bet to break even, that's just misleading.

@NewUser688442 this doesn't include the (significant) role of dividends. You could sell Bruno at half what you paid, but if he's given you a 60% return in divs then you are still in profit.

It is right to say that a shrinking market is harder to profit from though clearly, yes. But the potential of the product is massive when you look where FI is compared at FPL and traditional betting. They desperately need to inject some confidence into the market and repair the reputational damage waged over the past year - this div review could be the start (let's hope). If they can the sky is the limit - there is massive growth potential before this gets anywhere near market saturation in the UK alone, let alone if they are able to add more territories down the line.

Doesn't even aim to be a balanced piece. The guy clearly doesn't know a lot about the product, yet claims to understand it better than the Gambling Commission, who have been regulating it for years.

A few fair points in there, but it reads more like a 'shock doc' op ed than a serious analysis.

I do agree on the T&Cs point though. Farcical what FI have done on IPDs and they are going to have to make a really strong new dividend arrangement to win people back around.
